The Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Act (COSHH) mandates that businesses have procedures to manage potentially harmful substances. Identifying health hazards, determining how to prevent harm to health, providing control measures to reduce harm to health, ensuring they are used, and keeping all control measures in good working order, providing information, instruction, and training for employees and others, providing monitoring and health surveillance in appropriate cases, and planning for emergencies are all effective ways to reduce or eliminate workers' exposure to hazardous substances.
